Slip on pure artisan magic with AURUM Handmade Gold Lac Bangles, a set of four lightweight, stackable beauties crafted from natural lac resin. Born from an insect's shelter and shaped by fourteen generations of artisans hands, each bangle tells a story. The subtle seam? That's the mark of authenticity, where Hanif Ji and his family closed the circle by hand over gentle heat. Perfect for travel (no metal parts, TSA-friendly) and stacking high without the sharp clink. Quieter, lighter, and infinitely more soulful.

Unlike glass, Lac is less brittle, more durable, and surprisingly repairable over low heat. Every set arrives tied in a hand-crocheted cotton tassel and nestled in a gorgeous Palmyra leaf basket woven by women artisans in Tamil Nadu. This isn't just jewelry—it's a celebration of craft, culture, and the joy of layering. Stack 'em, gift 'em, love 'em. Buy multiple sets and save big on your wrist party.

Story

Lac is a resin secreted by a tiny scale insect, Kerria lacca, not by the tree itself. Once scraped, sticklac is crushed, sieved, and washed to remove bark and impurities, producing the purified shellac used in bangle-making. The bangle tradition is, in a sense, a human reuse of an insect architecture. More than 400 plant species can host the lac insect, but three carry the bulk of commercial cultivation: palas (Butea monosperma), kusum (Schleichera oleosa), and ber (Ziziphus mauritiana)
Lac cultivation is fundamentally an agroforestry practice, not a plantation monoculture — it’s typically done on trees that grow naturally rather than requiring dedicated cultivation, demanding relatively little capital or intervention.
Resin output per insect is also directly suppressed by rising temperature, so lac is, quietly, a material that registers climate stress in its own yield.
This is not a craft-only economy, it’s a forest livelihood. Lac has long been a key economic livelihood for thousands of tribal families living on the forest fringes of states like Jharkhand. The craft itself was brought to Jaipur when the king of Amer summoned artisans from Manoharpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Keep them cool and dry: Lac is a thermoplastic material, meaning it softens when exposed to high temperatures. Avoid leaving your bangles near heaters, on sunny windowsills, or in a hot car.
